What a mess Night of Champions was and I am not talking about the quality of matches. That to me is a secondary story. What the WWE did tonight is completely destroy some of what the WWE has built up over these last few months.

First let’s talk about the minor problem. The WWE decided to give Mark Henry the World Heavy Weight title. I understand the WWE is in dire need for more championship quality wrestlers to round out a weak and boring heavy weight division but Mark Henry? I am not excited to see this guy slowly wrestle his way around the ring and stumble through promos till the next PPV. Plus I think we all know they are going to pull that belt off Henry within the next two PPVs. It just seems like a bad call if you ask me. Once they pull that belt off Henry they will most likely put it on Orton again and then we will back to square one.

The biggest mistake of the night was giving John Cena the WWE title back. We all know the WWE is in love with Cena. It’s pretty obvious since they continuously take the belt away and then give it right back. It seems like Cena can be penciled in for every WWE title match every PPV and that my friends is boooooooring. Not only was the choice boring but it made Del Rio look like half the champion they were building him up to be. I guess his destiny was to win the title and then lose it immediately. They did such a masterful job building him up a wrestling machine. Looking almost unbeatable. Then they have him drop the belt as soon as he wins it. Way to kill a character WWE. They could have done something special with Del Rio and gave a him a long run with the belt establishing him as a quality champion that should be taken seriously. I miss the good old days where guys held the belt for up to a year. Now it’s passed around more than ring rat.

The WWE would have been much better off letting both champions keep their belts. Establishing Del Rio and eventually giving the World Heavy Weight title to a wrestler with a bit of personality would have been so much better and would have set the WWE on a path for some entertaining PPVs down the road. Instead what we can look forward to is a slow paced match with small spots and a match where we see John Cena fight for the Title once again.

Also on a side note that HHH vs CM Punk match solved nothing. This feud is guaranteed to continue. As long as the the WWE puts off any matches between the two till at least Mania I guess that isn’t that big of deal. Just kind of seemed like a pointless match.

Night of Champions gets a big thumbs down from this wrestling fan.
