CM Punk on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon; Takes Shot at Tebow
WWE champion CM Punk paid a visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night. It was an easy stop for Punk as WWE was in New Jersey Sunday night for No Way Out, and with Monday Night Raw emanating from Long Island.
This interview is complete with a shot at Tim Tebow.
It’s been a year now since Punk cut his now famous shoot promo on the stage of MNR. Twelve months later he’s still the champion, and in fact just passed Triple H for the 2nd longest run as champion in the last 5 years (212 days).
I’m all in favor of the long run Punk has had to this point, simply because no one has deserved to hold the title more than him. Punk has earned his way to the top and this run makes him a legitimate champion in the WWE record books.
However, I do feel his character has gotten a bit stale as of late. Sure he’s had a couple of good catch phrases lately, but it’s far from the pipe bombs from year ago.
I don’t fault Punk for this, it’s clearly the way WWE has been booking him. He’s booked as a babyface, and his part doesn’t really call for pipe bombs right now. However, I think there is no doubt that him and Daniel Bryan have stole the show anytime they’ve been in the ring together as of late. You can always count on Punk for great matches.
Eventually his run as champion will end, and his character will become more edgy again, it’s only a matter of time. This appearance on Late Night and the shot at Tim Tebow may jump start that.
