The Rock Will Reportedly Win The WWE Championship At The 2013 Royal Rumble

The Rock made headlines when he said he would wrestle for the WWE Championship at the 2013 Royal Rumble.  As of now, the WWE plans to have the part time wrestler win the title in order to face John Cena once again at Wrestlemania.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting the current plan is to have The Rock win the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble in January of 2013.

He then would go on to defend it against John Cena as one of the main events for WrestleMania 29.

This move makes zero logical sense in the long term but I guess the company thinks that having The Rock win the title at the Rumble will make people buy the PPV in April.  It is weird logic to have a part time guy who will never be back full time win the title and not have face someone who could use a rub.  Having him face Cena proves nothing.  It does not help build a guy and it is only used to get a cheap ratings pop.

Rock will probably beat CM Punk at the Rumble and then he will go off into a new feud.  No idea where that would go but a lot of people hope that it could lead to a match with Stone Cold Steve Austin at ‘Mania.  That would certainly draw attention and more people would look forward to that than Rock/Cena.

The Rock winning the title would make no sense, but this company never does.
