WWE superstar CM Punk is certainly known for being outspoken, it’s just how he rolls. Well his recent comments have produced a ripple effect throughout the media, which landed on the desk of ESPN personality Colin Cowherd.
Punk was merely calling out the fact that Nike agreed to an endorsement deal with a convicted drunk driver, Jon “Bones” Jones.
In May the UFC star crashed his Bentley into a utility pole, and was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI.
This morning on his show “The Herd,” Cowherd proceeded to blast Punk, calling him a moralist, and stating he should have no opinion on the matter. Cowherd cites pro wrestling’s history of drug and alcohol abuse as his reason that Punk should be quiet…
So what we have here is a tv/radio personality for ESPN, calling out a WWE superstar, who called out Nike for endorsing a UFC fighter convicted of drunk driving…Very interesting to say the least.
I’m just going to pick side here and agree with CM Punk. First and foremost because Punk is “straight edge.” He doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs, so if anyone has the right to call out a drunk driver, or a company endorsing one, it’s Punk.
If Cowherd did in fact lump Punk into a category of pro wrestlers with substance abuse problems, that was unfair, and inaccurate.
Should Nike be endorsing a convicted drunk driver? I don’t think that’s a good message to send to children, but hey they’re a multi-billion dollar company, and they’ll do what they want to do…
I’ll just sit back and continue to enjoy any “pipe bombs” Punk wants to continue to drop.
