The Respected Legacy Of Long Time Promoter, Mike Graham
Yesterday, we were informed of the very unfortunate and very sad passing of one of the most well-known and loved promoters in the business. Mike Graham, son of Florida Promoter Eddie Graham, was found dead in his Florida home (he was 61 years old).
Mike’s real name is Michael Gossett and was born in Tampa, Florida. His father was the lead promoter for Championship Wrestling from Florida (now Florida Championship Wrestling) which was at the time National Wrestling Alliance. Mike started to wrestle for his father’s promotion in1972 and was trained by Boris Malenko (Father of Dean Malenko). While in CWF he was involved in a longtime and well known program with Kevin Sullivan.
Mike eventually would take his talents to the AWA (American Wrestling Association) and won the light heavyweight championship with the company in 1988.
Mike ventured back to the south where he would be a fixed part within World Championship Wrestling (WCW) being a frequent in ring competitor. Mike would go on to be a road agent for the organization and help with developmental talent within WCW’s training facilities in Atlanta, Georgia.
Later in his career, Mike would takevarious booking roles in a variety of independent companies and helped with the reviving of the Florida Championship Wrestling. Fans will vividly remember Mike on his appearances on “Legends of Wrestling” round table discussion, aired on WWE Classics on Demand. In addition Mike would represent his father in his induction in both WCW and WWE Hall of Fame.
On October 18, 2012, Graham was found dead by his wife of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at their residence in Dayton Beach, Florida. His father and son had committed suicide in similar manners on January 21, 1985 and December 14th, 2010, respectively.
Myself and the rest of the staff with Rant Sports extend our deepest condolences to the Graham family.
