WWE Rumors: Five Early Favorites to Win the Royal Rumble
A Look at the Early Favorites to Win the 26th Annual Royal Rumble
It's time once again for WWE Royal Rumble. The annual January tradition is just a few weeks away. It's never too early to start thinking about possible winners, as it's one of the more intriguing bookings of the year. The Rumble winner is a big deal. The winner often goes on and wins the title while headlining Wrestlemania.
The past several years WWE has booked a guy to challenge for the World Heavyweight Title. Edge won in 2010, Alberto Del Rio won in 2011, and Sheamus won last year.
I think this year is going to be different. I think the winner may be a much bigger name, and someone who is likely to challenge for the WWE title.
In this list, there's only one up-and-coming superstar. You certainly can't rule it out, as the winner is traditionally someone on the rise, but it's not always the case. I expect 2013 to be one of those years where a big name wins to setup a huge main event at Mania.
That's why the Rumble is one of the best events of the year, there are so many different ways to book the match. There are actually 30 different ways to be exact, but we all know there are probably about five guys who could realistically win.
So as of now, one month out, these are my five favorites to win this year's Rumble match. Things can change in heartbeat, and we'll know a lot more if Dolph Ziggler holds on to his briefcase leading up to the PPV.
Lesnar is a long-shot to win, but definitely a name that you can't rule out. A Lesnar win could setup a match against The Rock for the WWE title at Wrestlemania.
Ryback will probably be the favorite to win this year's Rumble match. It's a solid pick, and could be booked many ways. I think Ryback belongs in the WHC picture, and a showdown against Big Show has previously been rumored for Mania. A Ziggler/Ryback match would also not be out of the question.
Orton is the wildcard in all of this. Many think once he returns from injury that he will be a heel, so there are numerous ways to book this. Orton is also the only guy I think could legitimately challenge for either title...
Undertaker has been rumored to be entering the Rumble this year, and a victory would be a great way to setup a match with CM Punk. Even if Taker doesn't win, he could still easily setup a feud with someone else via an elimination.
Like it or not, Cena is definitely on the board of possible winners this year. It's easy, but he could be booked to win the Rumble to setup a rematch with The Rock. I think that's too obvious, but I wouldn't put it past Vince McMahon if he's set on Cena/Rock II.

If the plan is to hold off Undertaker's return until early 2016, WWE is making the wrong decision. The closing moments of the SummerSlam match must be addressed sooner rather than later. Read More
