20 Years And Counting Of Monday Night Raw

It was a cold winters night, on Monday January 11th 1993. The Manhattan Center in downtown New York City was filled to capacity of raging fans who, unbeknownst to them, were a part of quite possibly the greatest experiment in pro wrestling history. On this night, would be the inaugural event to kick off the new wrestling and cable sensation. On this night was the premier of what is to be the longest episodic television program in television history. On this night was the first ever Monday Night Raw.

On January 14th 2013, WWE will celebrate the 20th year anniversary of Monday Night Raw coming to us live from the Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas. Home of the Houston Rockets. Historically, Raw has made a big deal and big fuss out of their Anniversary shows. For the 10 year anniversary in 2003, there was a separate program from the normal Raw Show where the WWE held a banquet style awards show where awards such as “Best Raw moment“, “Best Raw Diva“, “Best Raw superstar” were awarded. During that time there were some active feuds taking place, such as Triple H and Scott Steiner, so some of the program weaved in some of the current storylines. In 2008, the WWE acknowledged the 15 year anniversary of Raw with a special show bringing back some old superstars.

As far as the 20th anniversary, this show should encompass a great deal of past Raw video moments (expect to see the Mike Tyson Angle, Stone Cold Beer Truck and WWE announcement of purchasing WCW), and superstars from yester-year. Since the Royal Rumble will be 2 weeks later from the event, expect to see The Rock at the 20 year anniversary as well. And since this Raw will be in Texas, I’m sure a certain Raw legend who is known as the “Texas Rattlesnake” make stop by to say “Hi” as well.
