Former WWE Superstar John Morrison has been announced to have a matched signed for Dragon Gate USA in Santa Maria, California for Friday January 25th 2013. John Morrison signed the contract today (12/31/2012) to face Akira Tozawa. In addition, this will be Dragon Gate USA’s debut in Santa Maria. Tozawa is one of Dragon Gate’s top stars, so a match between Morrison’s high flying style and Tozawa will be a pure treat for fans.

For those unfamiliar, Dragon Gate USA is one of the most premier and sought after pro wrestling indie promotions in North America. Dragon Gate started out as a Japanese wrestling promotion formerly known as “Toryumon Japan“. Founded in 1997, Dragon Gate wrestlers are graduates of former WCW and WWE Superstar (and world renowned champion) Ultimo Dragon’s training facility “Toryumon gym”.  Dragon Gate continued to grow and in 2008, had its first set of shows in the United States, emulating from Los Angeles, California. One year Later, Dragon Gate announced its permanent expansion to the United States in forming Dragon Gate USA.

In addition to news about Dragon Gate, this show should also feature one of tomorrow’s rising women’s wrestlers, Trina Michaels. Trina has been on the independent wrestling scene for the past couple of years working with various west coast promotions such as Xtreme Pro Wrestling (XPW) and Womens Extreme Wrestling (WEW).

In the spring of 2011, Trina signed on to work with Dragon Gate USA. While there, she was the manager for John Moxley, who is currently in the WWE as Dean Ambrose, member of The Shield. With Moxley on a full time schedule with the WWE now, this leaves Trina with much room and opportunity to shine and develop on her own. Inside sources have stated that there are some big changes shortly ahead of her in the future. Could there be a possibility that she may be an added roster spot on the TNA Knockouts Division? Or even a WWE Diva? Time will tell for this. Overall, Dragon Gate USA is starting off 2013 on the right foot.
