With 2012 now behind us, everyone is looking forward to the year ahead in 2013. The WWE is going to kick off the year in style with the announcement that The Rock will be attending the first Monday Night Raw of 2013.
This will kick start what will be a huge year for The Rock who will be competing in more matches and making more appearances for the WWE in the first few months of the year. Not to mention that he will also be releasing four new Hollywood films in the first six months of 2013 as well.
Before we get to that though, the first thing that we will see on that Raw is the actual build up for The Rock vs. CM Punk at the Royal Rumble PPV. This is match that the company has somewhat been advertising since July when Punk first attacked The Rock. There’s been some speculation that Punk has held the WWE Title for this long specifically to face The Rock at the Royal Rumble. Sure, the WWE usually doesn’t do long term booking like TNA does, although there are some cases it does especially with The Rock or Brock Lesnar are involved.
The Rock’s return to the WWE should kick start what has been a very disappointing year for the company in 2012. Both The Rock and Lesnar may have helped WWE in 2012 in the first half of the year, but the latter parts of 2012 failed to interest fans. PPV buyrates were down and the ratings have been the worst they have been since 1997.
The Rock should get extra publicity with the number of movies he has out this year. Also, if the company decides to give him the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble, this might give the company even more outside exposure it has not received over the last couple of months.
