After so many months, weeks, days and nights of waiting, we are finally at the doorstep of the winter classic, the 2013 WWE Royal Rumble. This year’s Royal Rumble is special because it has been building since the summer of 2012, more in particular since the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw. The Rock announced that he would challenge for the WWE Championship at the 2013 Royal Rumble that night. Since that announcement was made, the eyes of the WWE universe have been glued on who may be the one who will go one on one with “The Great One”. The answer to that mystery is the currently WWE Champion CM Punk, who has held on to the title since the Survivor Series 2011. The anticipation of not only the match, but the show itself has been at an all time high. On paper, tonight card should be a strong show, lets see if the execution can happen.

Pre Show Match

For the United States Championship

Antonio Cesaro (C) vs The Miz

Prediction: This match has had a few weeks of build up now. I’m not the biggest fan of this match being in the pre-show of the event, however due to both guys being at the level that they are, they should deliver a good story in the match. I’m not banking on the US title changing hands on a Free For All platform such as the live YouTube, but Miz will come close.

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

Match #1

For The WWE Tag Team Championship

Team Hell No (C) vs Team Rhodes Scholars

Prediction: The story-line of Daniel Bryan and Kane going through anger management therapy is over with since they “graduated” last week on Smackdown. Holding on to the WWE tag titles while going through the therapy sessions, continued to make them the focal point of the story. It is time for the titles to be turned over to Team Rhodes Scholars to give it a different direction and a new fresh feel for the duo.

Winner: Team Rhodes Scholars

Match #2

World Heavyweight Championship Match

Alberto Del Rio (C) vs The Big Show (Last Man Standing Match)

Prediction: The fact that this match is the same stipulation as the original match that these two had when Del Rio won the World Title is a bit of a head scratcher. Which leads me questioning the overall motive of this match. I see Alberto Del Rio retaining the World Championship and beating The Big Show, but I also see Dolph Ziggler cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase and wins the World  Championship. This will begin a new program between him and Del Rio chasing after the championship.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio (Pre Dolph Ziggler Cash In)

Match #3

WWE Championship Match

CM Punk (C) vs The Rock

Prediction: The build up to this match has been quite significant since essentially its been alive and active since the summer of 2012. However, as stated in an earlier article, The Rock winning the title tonight would somewhat be implausible in terms of Punk’s run as arguably one of the most dominate heels ever. Since half of the world is expecting for The Rock to win the title tonight, I see the WWE taking it into a different direction and having Punk retain the title. Not only will Punk retain the title tonight, but he will hold on to that title through Wrestlemania.

Winner: CM Punk

Match #4

The 2013 Royal Rumble Match

Prediction: In the interest of some of his past pay per view matches, I feel Dolph Ziggler will be pulling double duty tonight, but the only difference will be Ziggler entering the Rumble with the World title around his waist and will go the supreme distance. Ziggler will enter in as #1 tonight (he is scheduled to be either #1 or #2) and will be one of the last two men in the ring. Since the 2nd half of 2012 was a demonstration of the rise of the young talent, I hope this Rumble is going to be a showcase of what the superstars of tomorrow can really do. In the past we have seen the rumble just sandwich in with sacrificial jobbers that didn’t make any sort of an impact, but tonight has the opportunity to do otherwise. When it comes to the winner, it will go to an established star in John Cena. Cena is not at the end of the career, however, we is at a point in his career where he is starting to realize his vulnerability. To be mentioned in the conversation with some past Royal Rumble greats like Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin, having two Royal Rumble victories is essential and nessessary for John Cena.

Winner: John Cena

Tonight should be a great show. Check your PPV provider for additional information about tonight’s show.
