Does Anyone Care For Del Rio vs Swagger At WrestleMania 29?

With the Elimination Chamber PPV concluded, we now know what some of the matches will be at WrestleMania 29. The main event is The Rock vs. John Cena for the WWE Title. Another match is Alberto Del Rio vs Jack Swagger for the World Heavyweight Championship.

It was expected a few months ago that Randy Orton would face Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Title. Ever since Del Rio turned into a babyface, it appears as if WWE is happy with him as champion instead. He’s popular with the Hispanic audience and has been a better babyface than The Miz. Not to mention people seem to like him more than when Sheamus was champion back in 2012.

The biggest surprise is the sudden elevation of Swagger. Swagger was a jobber for the better part of two years ever since the company lost faith in him back in 2010. It looked as if he would never become a main event player in the WWE ever again.

Swagger took time off in late 2012 to repackage himself. He has since resurfaced and has become more aggressive. He’s also gotten himself a new manager named Zeb Coulter too. Vince McMahon appears to love the pair so much that Swagger shocked everyone to win the Elimination Chamber to challenge Del Rio for the belt at WrestleMania 29.

My only concern is if anyone will care about this match at all? It feels too soon to push this new Swagger just two weeks after his “return”. It would have made more sense if Dolph Ziggler was given the opportunity instead as he’s worked his butt off for the past 12 months. He’s also more popular with the the internet fans too. On the other hand, this is actually a fresh match for WrestleMania 29. Del Rio and Swagger have never faced each other before (to my knowledge) and it could be a good match to see.

It will be interesting to see how many minutes this match gets at WrestleMania 29. Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan last year was only 18 seconds while Del Rio vs Edge was only 11 minutes the year before…

There’s still seven more weeks until WrestleMania 29 and WWE could swerve us all by booking an entirely different match altogether if Swagger and Del Rio fail to excite fans.
