Vince McMahon and his inflated ego never seem to die down. The professional wrestling promoter has always tried to make the WWE reach news headlines around the world. This year, he hopes to stage the world’s largest Harlem Shake at WrestleMania 29.

If you don’t know what a Harlem Shake is, it’s a viral theme that has been making the rounds on Youtube since the start of February thanks to a couple of teenagers from Australia. It is essentially just a 30 second long video showcasing a group of people dancing crazily in weird costumes.

The WWE wanted to break a world record last year at WrestleMania 28 with the most people wearing a mask in one place. This would have occurred during the planned Sin Cara vs. Rey Mysterio match. WWE were to give away free masks to everyone at WrestleMania 28 to break the record. Unfortunately, both wrestlers got injured and the match and world record attempt got cancelled.

The company planned to reattempt the record this year, but this is not possible either since Mysterio has been dealing with “undisclosed family issues” and will once again miss WrestleMania. Instead, the decision was made to make the “World’s Largest Harlem Shake”.

WWE already posted its own version of a Harlem Shake, but it only featured a small number of wrestlers, referees and other backstage workers. It will be interesting to see if the Harlem Shake remains relevant within the next few weeks for people to care about WWE’s record attempt. After all, many people are tired of the craze already.
