Macho Man Randy Savage was one of the most beloved and respected professional wrestlers of all time. Not only was he famous for his wrestling career, he also starred in numerous Slim Jim commercials and even had a cameo in the first Spider-Man movie.
Sadly, the world lost Savage on May 20th, 2011. Savage suffered a fatal heart attack while driving his jeep. He died minutes before the jeep actually crashed.
Two years on and fans haven’t forgotten about him. The best way to have remembered his legacy is if the WWE were to induct him into its Hall of Fame. This is currently not possible right now because Savage’s brother (Larry Poffo) insists the entire Poffo family gets inducted first.
The WWE would rather induct Savage by himself and then the Poffo family afterwards. Unless Poffo changes his mind, it’s unlikely Savage will be in the Hall of Fame anytime soon. Savage was never inducted to the Hall of Fame while he was alive due to “irreconcilable differences” between he and Vince McMahon.
Fans have now taken it upon themselves to remember Savage on a national level. A petition has been created to convince the US government to officially designate May 20th as “Macho Man Randy Savage Day”.
The likelihood of this petition passing is looking very slim, as the petition only has just under 4000 signatures so far. It needs over 100,000 signatures before April 4th to pass. Even if it does pass, the US government could still ignore it.
