John Cena vs. the Rock for the WWE Title is the main event for WrestleMania 29. With only four weeks to go until the big show, two of the company’s biggest stars weren’t even on Raw to promote it.
Technically, Cena was on Raw, but did not appear on TV. He was only there to wrestle in a dark match. As for the Rock, he was absent altogether. He probably had other prior commitments that prevented him from appearing this week.
This has been a problem ever since the Rock decided to come back and wrestle for the WWE back in 2011. His schedule is far too hectic for him to actively appear on every show each week. Not to mention, Rock never appears on WWE live events like the rest of the roster.
It’s possible WWE are rationing the appearances of both Rock and its other part-time star Brock Lesnar. I’ve noticed for the past few weeks that the Rock and Lesnar have not appeared on the same Raw show since last year’s 1000th episode celebration.
There is a rumor that the Rock will face Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX, so there’s a reason WWE wants to keep these two away from one another until next year — they don’t want fans to get excited too early.
The build up for Rock vs. Cena this year has been underwhelming so far. It would be more exciting if the Rock agrees to at least wrestle in one match on Raw. So far since his return, he’s wrestled exclusively on PPV events only.
Still, it’s very strange for WWE not to feature two of its biggest stars on Raw just four weeks away from WrestleMania 29.
