Bob Backlund being inducted into the WWE 2013 Hall of Fame was a big announcement made earlier this year. Backlund is one of the forgotten all-time greats that seem to get lost in the shuffle. Backlund will be entering into the hall of fame class with the likes of Mick Foley, Trish Status, Bruno Sammartino and Booker T, live from Madison Square Garden on April 6th. However, the buzz of who is inducting Backlund is just as big as the announcement of him getting in. Will it be a former WWE Legend inducting him? Will it be the son/daughter of his former manager Arnold Skaaland inducting him? Will it be a future up and coming technical superstar going to have the prestige? No, the one inducting him will be Maria Menounos from Extra?
While guest hosting on an episode of “Live with Kelly and Michael” Menounos announced on the show how much of an honor is will be to induct Bob Backlund into the WWE Class of 2013 Hall of Fame. Menounos has stated many times that she is a long time professional wrestling fan, and her competing last year at WrestleMania was a dream come true. This time she would be on a much more familiar setting as she is inducting her friend into the hall of fame class.
As a wrestling fan, this is nice to see, but sort of a funny pill to swallow since we were all expecting someone in a wrestling capacity to be the one to bring him in. Names like “The Magnificent” Don Muraco, Pedro Morales and even The Iron Sheik have been tossed around to be the ones to induct him, but no one saw this coming. It’s a peculiar pick, but in terms of WWE’s need to connect with the national media scale, this will be a big assist for them to get more eyes to watch the event and even WrestleMania 29.
