Is The Rock Retiring Again?
WWE WrestleMania 29 is now over and John Cena became the new WWE Champion after defeating The Rock in the main event. Is this the last time we will see Rock wrestling?
After Cena defeated Rock fair and square in the middle of the ring, Rock did something fans hoped he’d never do. Rock got up and shook Cena’s hand acknowledging that he was the better man.
Rock and Hulk Hogan did something similar when they wrestled at WrestleMania 18. Although the crowd cheered when Rock did it with Hogan. The crowd wasn’t so receptive when Rock was being nice to Cena, however.
Even though Cena won in the main event, he left the ring and let Rock parade around for one last time while the people played Rock’s music again. Is this a sign that Rock has wrestled his last match again?
This sparks similarities to when Stone Cold Steve Austin retired back at WrestleMania 19. Rock was the victor 10 years ago, but he left the ring for the crowd to say goodbye to Austin one last time.
The icing on the cake was when Rock met up with Cena on top of the ramp and “passed the torch.” Rock raised Cena’s hand before leaving the stage for good so that Cena could parade around with the WWE Title to conclude the show.
Hopefully, Rock isn’t going to “retire” again, but one has to wonder how he can keep a hectic schedule like his in the first place. Rock is still one of the biggest Hollywood stars out there right now and I’m sure it’s hard for him to be an actor and WWE Superstar at the same time. Hopefully, Rock will be back again next year to wrestle at WrestleMania XXX before he actually retires for good.
