Batista is one former professional wrestler that is already been cast in a major Marvel film. He will play Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie due to be released in 2014. The Rock looks like another wrestler that may appear in a Marvel film too.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed in an interview with Zeenews that he’s a “gigantic fan” of The Rock and is keen to work with him one day. Feige also credited The Rock’s work ethic saying he always promotes himself and his movies really well.
Marvel is obviously one of the hottest entertainment properties in the world right now. Iron Man 3 is already the highest grossing movie of 2013 and is on its way to earn over $1 billion at the box office. Last year’s The Avengers also broke numerous records and stands as the third-highest grossing film in cinema history.
If The Rock is to be cast in a future movie from Marvel, this might be beneficial for WWE as well. WWE reached an agreement with Paramount Pictures earlier this year to promote The Rock in both G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Pain & Gain. If WWE can make an agreement with Marvel in the future, this can only mean great things for the company.
The only hurdle WWE faces is if The Rock wants to stop wrestling beyond 2014. Many people believe WrestleMania XXX will be his “real” retirement match and is likely to disappear from the wrestling industry forever after that. The Rock already “retired” from wrestling back in 2004 and did not come back until seven years later.
