Damien Sandow shocked the world by winning the Smackdown version of the Money in the Bank ladder match.
The Smackdown version of this match was really unique because it was full of heels. Aside from Sandow, there was Cody Rhodes, Fandango, Jack Swagger, Antonio Cesaro, Dean Ambrose and Wade Barrett.
Before the match began, I thought Ambrose or Barrett would be getting a push to the main event scene. Barrett has been in the WWE since 2010 and was a huge deal back then. His momentum has faded as of late, although I thought WWE was ready to push him again.
As for Ambrose, he’s the leader of The Shield and they have been creating a lot of buzz since they debuted late last year. Even though Ambrose is the current US Champion, I thought he was ready for bigger things in 2013.
Alas, WWE gave the chance to Sandow instead. Sandow is a great entertainer as his promos are funny and meaningful. The most humorous thing he did was mock Randy Orton by singing Orton’s theme song. That in itself was a memorable moment.
Hopefully Sandow can become a future World Heavyweight Champion that can excite crowds. Although there’s nothing wrong with Alberto Del Rio’s wrestling ability, he still lacks in the charisma department.
If Sandow can feud with Dolph Ziggler for the championship, this might be an exciting new encounter. Not to mention, it seems like Rhodes might be put into the main event scene too judging by his excellent performance at the Money in the Bank PPV.
