The main event for SummerSlam has officially been announced as John Cena will defend his WWE title against Daniel Bryan.
A lot of fans are wanting Bryan to finally dethrone Cena and become the no. 1 wrestler in the company. Cena has been on top of the WWE ladder for over eight years now and a lot of fans are sick of seeing him. Not to mention, Cena hasn’t even turned heel and his character has stayed the same since 2005 as well.
Bryan, on the other hand, had to work hard to make it to the top of the WWE. He wrestled at Ring of Honor for many years, and many people doubted he’d ever end up in the WWE because his small physique and pale complexion didn’t fit within Vince McMahon‘s image of a “WWE Superstar”.
It appears as if McMahon has valued actual wrestling ability over size these days with CM Punk and Chris Jericho being some of the smaller guys getting decent pushes in the company. Bryan has joined that list too as he’s been getting a lot of exposure recently.
Bryan needs to beat Cena to solidify his position in the company and prove all of the doubters wrong. He was the World Heavyweight Champion a couple of years ago, although that reign was short-lived and forgettable. Bryan looked like a coward back then and Sheamus squashed him too many times.
Hopefully, the WWE makes the right call and allows Bryan to beat Cena cleanly at SummerSlam. The company needs a new main event star and Bryan is the right guy for the job.
