John Cena vs. Randy Orton appeared to be a match for WrestleMania XXX. The WWE surprised everyone when it was announced for the TLC PPV instead.

It was speculated by many that Orton vs. Cena would occur at WrestleMania XXX to unify the WWE and World titles. However, they will now battle in a huge TLC match at the the TLC PPV. Both belts will be suspended high above the ring and will be up for grabs. This means there will only be one World Champion in the company.

This harks back to December 2001 when they crowned Chris Jericho as the first Undisputed Champion. Many people thought the company should have unified the belts at WrestleMania 18 to make the event more meaningful The same thing is happening again with WWE unifying the belts prior to WrestleMania.

WrestleMania XXX is a huge event and I feel that unifying the belts then would make the occasion even more historic. Throwing a match like this away at the TLC PPV means WrestleMania’s title match may seem not so important.

The one thing I do like, however, is that Orton vs. Cena won’t be the main event for WrestleMania XXX. I’ve seen these two wrestle too many times in the past and it would have been disappointing seeing them main event it. Now it seems WWE has some other wrestlers planned to main event the show. It’s possible Orton will win at TLC so that he can defend the belt against CM Punk at WrestleMania XXX. As for Cena, he might have someone to wrestle at the event…
