WWE Should Unify Intercontinental And U.S Titles

With the the WWE and World Heavyweight titles being unified, why not unify the Intercontinental and U.S Titles? Why not go back to the old ways with only four titles in in WWE?

With the years going by, the WWE is changing in such a way that makes it necessary to have two mid-card titles. The recently-crowned Intercontinental champion Big E. Langston has been focused to being the mid-card champion. Dean Ambrose, who is the U.S champion, has been in major feuds and six-man tag matches. Both are doing well, but the focused has been shifted away from the U.S belt.

If you’re a champion in the WWE, that means you’re a big deal. I understand that titles are seen as props instead of Holy Grail of the wrestling world these days, but it hard to understand why they would have two titles when they make you think that the locker room is full of larger than life characters.

There are superstars like Zack Ryder, 3MB, Dolph Ziggler, the Real Americans, and then there are superstars who are on the top of the card: CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, John CenaRandy Orton, Rey Mysterio and the Big Show.

There is a big difference between those guys. The former are those who should be challenging for these mid-card titles on their way to becoming main-event caliber stars. If they are jobbed out to the upper-level guys, then the WWE will not be able to make new stars.

Looking back at history, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, Bret Hart and Randy Orton are just some of the names on a big list that have risen gone from the bottom of the card to the top. Most have had a good reign as a  mid-card champion. Therefore, the titles are very important in getting these superstars to rise to the top.

If you have these champions lose on a weekly basis, then the value of the titles go down. I say either keep one of the belts or create a new championship, but one thing that needs to happen: there should be one mid-card champion.
