There’s talk all over the web of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper wrestling Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans. If the two can’t do a singles match, there has also been talk of a tag-team fight between Piper and CM Punk against Hogan and John Cena.
Let’s get over the facts that Piper is old and Hogan is really old. Let’s get over the fact that CM Punk should be wrestling for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and Cena … well, he should have learned how to throw a better fist by now.
WrestleMania would be much better with Piper and Hogan somehow involved. How many more chances does Hogan have to appear on the big stage? Why shouldn’t we get to see two legends who helped launch WrestleMania compete one more time? The crowd reactions alone would be worth it.
It would also be time for Hogan to do something that he never did in the WWE — he needs to put Piper over. Hogan earned a reputation over the years for never wanting to lose to guys whom he perceived as less than him. Piper never got a clean victory over Hogan in the WWE. How cool would it be to see Hot Rod put Hogan away with a sleeper and get the victory that he deserved?
Piper never held the WWE championship. He didn’t need to. He was exciting on his own. He was possibly the greatest heel in the history of the WWE.
Hogan, if nothing else, is a great showman. He doesn’t deserve to be world champion again. He doesn’t deserve to get the biggest check on the show. He doesn’t even deserve to get a victory. But Piper, long overlooked and out-shined by Hogan, deserves to get a win at WrestleMania.
