Royal Rumble 2014: 10 Possible Surprise Entrants
10 Wrestlers Who Could Be Surprise Entrants in the 2014 Royal Rumble
The 2014 Royal Rumble is just days away, which means that the road to Wrestlemania is also right around the corner. WWE dubs the Rumble as the official start to the road to WM, but I almost view the road to Rumble as the start to the road to Mania. Once Monday Night Football ends, it's WWE's go time from January to April.
This year's Rumble has a much different feel to it than last year's. In 2013 we basically knew the outcome before the PPV even began. John Cena was going to win the Rumble match and the Rock was going to beat CM Punk to set up another main event match at WM 29. That's exactly what happened and the end result at WM was even more obvious.
But now in 2014, wrestling fans aren't quite sure what or who to predict at the Rumble. Daniel Bryan would be the favorite to win the 30-man match, but as of now, he's not in it. Bryan is slated to take on Bray Wyatt in a singles match and his WM future is up in the air. After Bryan you'd have to say that Batista is the favorite. He made it clear upon his return that he'd be in the title picture and I can easily see that being the case. WWE can have him win the Rumble match and then face Alberto Del Rio at next month's PPV to kill time.
I think it's a safe bet that we'll get Batista and Orton at Mania, but there's still no guarantee they'll wrestle for the title.
But getting back the Rumble match, who will the surprise entrants be this year? That's one of the big questions on every fan's mind right now. In this slideshow we'll take a look at 10 realistic surprise entrants. Some are much more likely to happen than others, but all of them have been linked to a return at some point in the recent past. Enjoy:
Goldberg has denied rumors that he's going back to WWE for a match at WM 30. But if he is going back for one last run, why not start it with a surprise return at the Rumble to get everyone talking?
Jericho is swearing up and down that he has no plans to go back to WWE in 2014. However, you can't ever believe what he says. Just like 2013, he could be a surprise entrant in the Rumble.
Let me tell you something, brother. A Hulk return at the Rumble is a big time long shot, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. He's said to have a deal in place to return to the company in the near future, so it's at least an option to have him shock the world at the Royal Rumble.
Jake the Snake Roberts
A Roberts Rumble return has been talked about for months now. He appeared on Raw a few weeks back, so you'd have to think that he's talked to Vince and company about a Rumble spot.
Rob Van Dam
RVD is going to be back with WWE for a Mania run, it's just a matter of when that run starts. I think Van Dam is a near lock for the Rumble.
Sheamus has been on the shelf for many months now after shoulder surgery. Is it time for him to return? I believe it is. The more important question - heel or face upon return?
Sting is the long shot of all long shot entrants into this year's Rumble. But if you think about it, it's not completely crazy. If he's ever going to make a run in WWE, it will have to take place in the near future.
Cabana to WWE talks have been going on for awhile now, but so far he's yet to make his return/debut. What better place to make an impact than the Rumble?
It's unlikely that the headliner for this year's HOF class will be in the Rumble match, but you can't rule it out. The crowd would go crazy.
Just like Jake the Snake, Hall is a candidate to enter this year's Rumble. After getting his life together, the former star is finally capable of putting on a respectable performance again.
