It seems like something this happens every few months as Rey Mysterio appears to be injured once again.
Mysterio has been wrestling for a very long time since he was a teenager. His fast-paced style is exciting to watch, but this has taken a toll on his body over the years. Mysterio has had many knee surgeries in the past, but it appears that there is nothing that can be done to reverse the damage. The man comes back too often and never allows his knees to fully heal. I think it’s now time for him to truly retire from professional wrestling for good.
Mysterio just came back from the same injury in November 2013. He was a part of Survivor Series and wrestled like he’d normally would. Just three months later, he injured his knee once again. During last week’s Smackdown taping, it appeared that Mysterio was down again. He rolled out of the ring holding up his knee and was clearly in pain.
It hasn’t been reported if Mysterio’s current injury is serious, but it should give him an indication that his wrestling days are numbered. He’s going to be 40-years-old this year, and his knees are not going to get any better if he continues to wrestle full-time.
If Mysterio does need to take time off, it would be the third year in a row that he will miss WrestleMania. He was out due to injury in 2012 and 2013, missing both WrestleMania shows. The WWE had planned for him to wrestle Sin Cara at both shows, but this obviously never happened.
I feel it’s best that Mysterio retires soon because he’s getting injured more frequently than ever. Not to mention, the WWE roster is already full with Batista back and lots of young guys coming up the ranks. Mysterio should call it a day and retire before he ends up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
