What Caused Raw's Lowest Rating In 2014?

Despite being only three weeks away from WrestleMania XXX, Raw had the lowest rating for the entire year so far.

This week’s episode of Raw only averaged 4.075 million viewers — all three hours of the show drew only just above four million viewers. This is unlike recent Raw episodes, with some hours drawing close to five million viewers. This is the least watched Raw show since Dec. 23, 2013.

This is bewildering, because WWE has finally given fans what they wanted. Daniel Bryan will be facing Triple H at WrestleMania XXX, with the winner going on to the main event match. Not to mention it was a solid show overall, with huge emphasis on both Bryan and Triple H. After the unique “Occupy Raw” segment from the week before, you would think more people would be interested in the show.

The only reason I can think of is that this show lacked three big stars. Undertaker, Hulk Hogan and Brock Lesnar were all absent from this week’s Raw episode. Casual fans are still a huge part of the viewing audience, and it seemed like they didn’t care to watch this week’s show.

The Road to WrestleMania episodes of Raw are usually the highest rated of the entire year, so it’s surprising the rating was so low this week. Maybe a lot of CM Punk fans have given up watching WWE, as they know he’s not coming back anytime soon.

One factor that could have played a tole was that it was St Patrick’s Day. I guess quite a lot of people were celebrating instead of watching TV that night.

It will be interesting to see what the rating for Raw is next week. It might draw bigger numbers since Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled to appear.
