According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former WWE Superstar CM Punk and current WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee have been engaged. There is no word yet on when the wedding will take place.

CM Punk walked out on WWE after this year’s Royal Rumble on Jan. 26. Punk was scheduled to be a major part of WrestleMania XXX, feuding with Triple H near the top of the card. Obviously plans changed and Daniel Bryan took his place in the program.

The real reasons for his departure remain cloudy and people in the know haven’t been talking. We do know that Punk was frustrated with the creative direction of his character. Also, you don’t need to be a Mensa member to figure out wasn’t getting along professionally with Triple H. In terms of power, Triple H is probably No. 2 in the company behind Vince McMahon. Punk claims he was still on good terms with McMahon when he left.

Punk and AJ had been an item for several months before the engagement was revealed. In fact, the word around the water cooler suggests that AJ was (and perhaps still is) being punished for her relationship with the estranged Straight Edge Superstar. Are her days in WWE numbered?

Truth be told, this sounds like baloney. Sure AJ has been involved in some questionable matches and scenarios, but name a Diva who hasn’t? She’s still the longest reigning Divas Champion ever (289 days and counting) and the face of the division. Barring a shocking development, she’s going to be around for a long time to come.

AJ will take part in the Vickie Guerrero Divas Championship Invitational at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans. Thirteen other Divas will be involved in the match, and it was revealed on Monday Night Raw that the first Diva to score a pinfall will be named the new Divas Champion.

The match will almost certainly resemble a fiery train-wreck, but the important thing here is whether or not AJ walks out as Divas Champion. If she loses her title in decisive fashion, it might signal that the engagement was too much for WWE brass to handle.
