An early match that is being discussed for WrestleMania 31 is The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar.
This match was originally scheduled to occur at WrestleMania XXX. It didn’t go ahead because the Rock suffered an injury at WrestleMania 29. The Rock concentrated on his movie career first and only made a talking appearance at WrestleMania XXX.
It would have been interesting to see who the Undertaker would have faced if Lesnar was wrestling the Rock. Undertaker’s winning streak could have been left intact unless he was going to face John Cena. Cena vs. Undertaker could have been possible as Cena was only facing Bray Wyatt this year. Cena could have turned into the ultimate heel if he beat the Undertaker this year instead of Lesnar doing it.
Anyway, if the Rock vs. Lesnar goes ahead at WrestleMania 31, this could be a huge match. These two tore the house down in their first encounter back at SummerSlam 2002. A return match would mean big business with both men being bigger stars now than in 2002.
The Rock is expected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame next year, so it’s possible that this could be his “retirement” match. The Rock will be turning 43 years old next year, and it’s likely he’d want to stay healthy for the rest of his movie career. Last year’s injury irked Michael Bay because the Rock was too unwell to promote the movie Pain and Gain.
If Rock doesn’t wrestle next year, the backup plan is Cesaro vs. Lesnar. This would be an awesome match as both men are “Paul Heyman guys”. I’m sure Rock vs. Lesnar is the WWE’s main target since that match would get more mainstream attention despite how good Cesaro is in the ring.
Whoever it ends up being in the match, you can count on them putting on a great show for the crowd and if you want to attend be sure to head over to Select-A-Ticket for great deals on WrestleMania tickets.
