Internally in WWE, some people are upset with the current number of WWE Network subscribers.
Currently there are 667,287 subscribers to the WWE Network in a number that was revealed the day after WrestleMania XXX. WWE issued a press release that this number is “good” and on their way to the goal of getting one million subscribers by the end of 2014.
Internally, however, it’s being reported they’re kind of disappointed by the number. Not to mention investors expected them to get one million subscribers already. The share price for WWE has dropped over 20 percent immediately after the subscription numbers were revealed.
WWE hoped a number closer to one million would have been a good starting point. After all, their goal is to get one million subscribers in order to break even. They thought more people would sign up since WrestleMania XXX is their biggest show of the year.
It will be a hard battle for WWE from now until the end of 2014. Their goal is to get one million subscriptions from the USA only. That’s been the target ever since the network was announced. WWE is not concerned about international buyers until 2015 when the network hits other countries.
With WrestleMania XXX already out of the way, they will need to promote the rest of their monthly PPV events in a big way in order to attract more buyers. SummerSlam might be the next focal point in my mind.
Another barrier for WWE to consider is how many people will stay on the WWE Network after six months is up? Most people who bought the network ordered it to watch WrestleMania XXX. Will the current subscribers renew their subscriptions or will they wait until next year instead when WrestleMania 31 rolls around?
WWE is already pushing the network again, allowing people another free week trial. They mentioned you can watch WrestleMania XXX already in all its glory and more. Not bad, since in previous years most people would have had to wait a month or so to watch a PPV again on DVD or Blu-ray.
