Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar is a match that never happened, but would be awesome if it did.
Austin had Paul Heyman as a guest on his podcast show. Heyman was on his show prior to WrestleMania XXX, but they talked about many topics. One topic discussed was about Austin possibly getting in the ring again against Lesnar. Austin admitted he’d be tempted to wrestle Lesnar. This is an interesting comment since Austin has been retired since 2003 and has never wrestled since.
Austin vs. Lesnar was originally scheduled to happen back in 2002. The WWE were stupid back then as the match would have happened for free on Raw. Lesnar would have cheated to win with Austin looking weak. As a result of WWE’s bad booking decision, Austin left the company while still under contract. He was also wrestling hurt which was another reason he left.
Austin’s neck injury, suffered back in 1997, never fully healed and he retired in 2003. The Rock was his last ever opponent. It’s been 11 years now and Austin still hasn’t wrestled. Rumors always circulate for his return match, but he never goes through with it.
It will be interesting if Lesnar is the one guy that Austin would accept to wrestle in a return match. If that match happens next year, Austin would be 50 years old. The match would look awesome on paper, but ring rust for Austin is a concern. However, it could still work as Hulk Hogan managed to still have a decent match with Rock when he was close to 50 years old.
Austin vs. Lesnar would sell a lot of tickets if it does happen. I doubt it will happen because of Austin’s age, but it is a dream match many have been wanting to see for years now.
