After the Extreme Rules event, Batista is going to take some time off from wrestling in the WWE. Batista is set to team up with Triple H and Randy Orton to face The Shield at Extreme Rules. Evolution reunited after they broke up almost 10 years ago.
It’s being reported that the plan all along was for Batista to take time off after Extreme Rules. He will be doing promotional work for his movie Guardians of the Galaxy, and it’s likely he’ll be back around in time for SummerSlam.
What I don’t get is why Batista was scheduled for a huge push even though he was already taking time off. If the WWE went with their original plan, Batista would have won the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania XXX. His reign would have only lasted one month, so presumably Orton would get the belt back.
With Batista leaving for a few weeks, it makes the Royal Rumble PPV from this year even more pointless. Batista should have been booked more like Brock Lesnar or RVD. These two get involved in their own storylines and don’t steal the spotlight from anyone else. If anything, Daniel Bryan or even CM Punk should have won this year’s Royal Rumble instead.
Another thing that annoys me is that the Evolution vs. The Shield feud will only last for a month. Orton and Triple H are likely to carry the feud without him, but it’s not the same without Batista in the mix. In either case, Batista’s comeback was booked incorrectly from the start and hopefully the WWE will book him more intelligently when he comes back.
