Believe it or not, 2014 will mark the sixth year of the Extreme Rules PPV (now called 'special event'). With this year's event less than a week away, it's a good time to look back at some of the best matches in ER history.

Here's a look at the top 10 matches:

10. John Morrison vs. The Miz vs. John Cena - Triple Threat Cage Match (2011)

This was a solid main event bout for the WWE title back in 2011. The Miz was just coming off his WrestleMania win and Morrison seemed to be a rising star. We all know how everything turned out -- Cena won the title and moved forward with his career, while Miz and Morrison will probably end up back together in a tag team at some point.

9. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio - No Holds Barred (2009)

Grudge match after WM 26? You bet. Edge and Jericho duked it out in a steel cage as part of their fantastic feud.

Sheamus had just lost to HHH clean at WM 26 when this bout took place. The Irishman was on his way up the WWE ladder as a heel, and took his stock up a notch or two by taking The Game out of action on this night.

What a career moment we had here with Christian. After many years of being a B-team player, he finally climbed the ladder and captured his first world title.

Sheamus ended up being the man on this night, but the YES movement was just getting underway. Daniel Bryan has come a long way in two years.

What a physical match this was. Lesnar had just returned to WWE after an eight-year hiatus and Cena was just coming off his loss to The Rock. Something had to give, and we all knew Cena wasn't losing two straight big matches.

2. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho - Chicago Street Fight (2012)

Although Lesnar and Cena got most of the headlines, Jericho and Punk stole the show on this night in Chicago. They one-upped their WM match with a classic street fight (in street clothes of course).

1. Jeff Hardy vs. Edge - Ladder Match (2009)

Hardy and Edge in a ladder match = gold. The match was great and the minutes that followed it were even better. CM Punk would cash in his MITB briefcase shortly after the conclusion and beat Jeff Hardy to claim his first world title.
