SummerSlam 2014 is over three months out, but buzz surrounding the event’s featured bouts is well underway. Brock Lesnar is one guy everybody agrees will appear at this year’s summer spectacular. After knocking off the Undertaker at WrestleMania, Lesnar’s stock is at an all-time high and many believe that he should be inserted into the title picture upon his return. According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE may have other plans for The Beast.
One match reportedly being discussed is Lesnar vs. Cesaro. The two Paul Heyman guys could throw down much sooner than anticipated. The report names Cesaro as the face for the match, with him having turned on Heyman in the time leading up to SS.
But is it too soon to turn him face? Will the fans buy a solo Cesaro face character?
Of all the matches WWE could book for SS 2014, this one just doesn’t make sense. Not that it wouldn’t make sense down the road somewhere, but if this is the direction WWE decides to go in this summer, it means that Cesaro will only be a Heyman guy for a short four month run. That’s just not enough.
There’s way more in the tank for Heyman and Cesaro than just a small run from Mania to SummerSlam. If WWE wants to turn the King of Swing face down the road, fine. It’s just not time yet.
People want to see Lesnar and Daniel Bryan for the WWE title. It’s an intriguing bout that would surely be entertaining from bell to bell.
It’s early so anything can change, but hopefully heel Cesaro stays aligned Paul Heyman for at least the rest of the year.
