NXT Takeover Is All About The Champions

Airing on Thursday night, NXT Takeover is meant to serve as a championship showcase. Every championship and champion will be featured in some form, giving WWE Network subscribers a glimpse into the future of the company.

One interesting matchup features Natalya and Charlotte dueling for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship. The WWE has advertised that Ric Flair will be in Charlotte’s corner and Bret Hart will accompany Natalya. Having Flair and Hart at ringside is a great way to spice things up and add importance to the match.

Being that Natalya is on the main roster, I fully expect Charlotte to go over. Charlotte has been a standout worker on NXT, and Natalya is definitely the ring general of the Divas division, so this should be a quality contest.

The NXT Tag Team Championships won’t be decided at Takeover, but the title holders will make their presence felt. The Ascension, comprised of Konnor and Viktor, have mowed down everyone in their path since claiming the straps on Sep. 5. They will battle masked wrestlers Kalisto and El Local. This will likely be a showcase match for the Ascension, so don’t expect too much back-and-forth action.

In the main event, Adrian Neville will defend his NXT Championship against Tyson Kidd. Kidd has been portrayed as a jobber for many years on WWE television, but a recent (and surprising) push on NXT has given him new life. Don’t be fooled, though, because a new champion isn’t going to be crowned. Kidd is here to give Neville a good match, and he almost certainly will. In the end, though, it will be the English high-flyer who walks away with the belt.

Who will be the next contender for the the NXT Championship? Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze will fight for the honor in their No. 1 contender’s match. Breeze is a nice talent who has a lot of potential, but he isn’t quite ready for long championship matches. Zayn is a phenomenal athlete and a top-tier worker in the industry, and the right move is for him to win.

Plus, who wouldn’t want to see a Neville/ Zayn program? It is face vs. face, which the WWE usually resists, but you can’t deny that Neville-Zayn is a more enticing direction.

NXT Takeover is an important show to watch. Fans are going to see what’s in store for WWE down the line, and I think they’ll find that the future isn’t all that bleak.
