You never know what direction WWE is going to go in these days. But for the most part, they seem to get it right. In the case of the Money In the Bank 2014 main event, they most certainly got it right.
It wasn’t easy, and it took one of the worst storylines in WWE history to get there, but the right participants were chosen for the MITB main event. Why they had Roman Reigns involved in that ridiculous Stephanie-puke segment? No one knows except the folks behind the scenes — but come on now. They couldn’t have just put Reigns in a gauntlet match and made him earn his spot in the Battle Royal that way?
But as stupid as the Stephanie/Vickie segment was, it ultimately got WWE were it needed to be. They chose a terrible path to get there, but at least they picked the right destination.
Now the MITB main event makes sense on several levels. John Cena and Bray Wyatt can continue working together, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns can continue working together, all while they’ve got the darkhorse Cesaro lying in wait.
All the necessary elements have been booked, and this MITB championship match could be one for the ages. It won’t be as high-flying as other MITB matches we’ve seen because it’s mainly comprised of bigger guys, but the match is so flexible in terms of what can happen, that fans shouldn’t worry about it stealing the show. It will.
As for who will grab the titles and become the next champion? We’ll examine that down the road. Stay tuned.
