It’s been a wild week for TenilleEmmaDashwood. Last Monday, Dashwood was charged with shoplifting at a Walmart in Hartford, Conn. According to police reports, she vacated a self-checkout machine without paying for a $21 iPad case. Dashwood claims the theft was accidental according to the New York Daily News.

Whatever the case may be, Emma was wished the best in her future endeavors on Wednesday but was reinstated by WWE later that day. It was a close call for Dashwood, whose dreams of entertaining the masses were nearly shattered for less than $30. Unfortunately, she may not be out of the woods yet.

With Santino Marella (real name Anthony Carelli) announcing his retirement, Emma is without a partner. With her connection to the main roster permanently out of action, Emma will be forced to make it on her own.

This could be a blessing or a curse, depending on how you look at it. In the short term it’s mostly bad, because Emma isn’t ready to get over on national television and still needs time to develop. It’s quite possible she’ll need to be repackaged, especially considering both her dance and sock puppet gimmick were Santino inspirations. Without a doubt, NXT is the best place for her right now.

In the long run, losing Santino isn’t the worst thing in the world. Comedy acts are worth a laugh or two and have become an integral part of most wrestling companies, but it’s not where you want to be if you aspire to have a serious wrestling career. Santino was excellent at what he did, but you don’t see him main-eventing many PPVs.

Emma probably won’t be headlining WrestleMania any time soon, but there’s no reason why she can’t make her way to the top of the Divas division. She’s a gifted athlete with seven years of wrestling experience under her belt, and at 25 years old she has already developed into a fairly competent worker.

Emma, like many young grapplers, still needs to learn who she is between the ropes. Let’s hope her current life circumstances give way to greater opportunities.
