“Nature Boy” Ric Flair is back and he’s coming to Monday Night Raw next week. The 16-time world champion is booked for both Raw and Friday Night SmackDown, as well as WWE‘s live event at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday night.

Flair will be a recurring character, but it’s still unknown how he’ll be used. The company was adamant that he retire from in-ring competition after his bout with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando. Flair contends it was a forced retirement and wound up wrestling several times for TNA. He also laced up the boots with Hulk Hogan during his Hulkamania tour of Australia in 2009.

One would suspect his role will be non-wrestling, but you never know with “Slick Ric.” There are few people in the world who love performing as much as he does and he may not be stopped once he gets “the itch.” That being said, Vince McMahon is not in favor of Flair wrestling at all.

If Flair’s role is strictly managerial it’s reasonable to suspect WWE will call Charlotte to the main roster and have her work with her father. There were also rumblings a while back of pairing Flair with the Miz. The Miz has been booked like a glorified jobber since he returned from filming the Marine 4, so I don’t know why they would waste Flair in that capacity.

Flair has been on Raw this year, coming back to show his support for the Shield during their feud with Evolution. He cut a largely incoherent promo that confused the live audience, but the segment saw significant ratings growth. The company decided he had value and it wasn’t long before serious talks were underway.

Cue up because the jet-flying, limousine-riding, kiss-stealing son of a gun is back!
