Wrestling fans knew there would be light shed on Kurt Angle‘s future during his appearance on The Ross Report with Jim Ross. Any and all topics are usually on the table during interviews on the RR, so of course Angle’s future in the wrestling business was going to come up.
It’s widely known that Angle’s current deal with TNA expires in September. But until now it wasn’t known that he actually declined a renewal offer from them.
The Olympic gold medalist told Ross that he’s waiting to make his decision on his next contract, simply because it will be his last.
The conclusion many will draw from that comment is that Angle will head back to WWE for one final victory lap before calling it a career. The real question — will WWE want him back?
It’s possible that WWE will want nothing to do with the veteran grappler. His body is beat down and he’s also had some rumored issues with substance abuse. Many wonder if he could even pass a WWE physical at this point to get back in the ring. Getting a deal with the worldwide leader in sports entertainment isn’t as easy as it used to be.
But given that WWE is trying to do whatever it can to bolster Network subscriptions in the fall (first six month renewals come up in September), things might be different than normal. Plus, there’s simply no denying that Angle is an all-time great. His return would be good for business.
It’s true, it’s true.
