The last WWE Magazine ever, had an article talking about who among The Shield would become the next WWE Champion. While the article makes compelling cases for all three, it’s been well documented that Roman Reigns is the next surefire face of the WWE.
There’s a problem, however. The crowd is beginning to lean a different direction: They want Dean Ambrose.
Ambrose was the weakest of the three in my opinion when it came to The Shield. He was smaller, and his look was much more plain; however, the biggest part was that he wasn’t as interesting in the ring. I couldn’t solidly get behind a guy who flails his arms around, rabbit punching people in order to weaken them; it just looked too silly.
Now that The Shield is over and done with, we’ve been able to see Ambrose really come into his own and truly show us what he’s made of. The crowd was getting more and more behind him until he had his head curb stomped into cinder blocks, causing him to miss time. Though Ambrose was out for several weeks to film a cop movie, the crowd had not forgotten him and celebrated like crazy when he pulled up in a cab last night and quickly rushed to the ring to take on Seth Rollins.
While they didn’t actually have a match, it reignited their feud. When their match is announced for Hell In A Cell, the crowd will scream their heads off out of pure excitement because that is exactly what we all want. These two former Shield members have had arguably the best feud of the year because they find a way to make every single match feel fresh and new. It only makes sense to have them either “end” their feud with a HIAC match or to at least have that be the temporary bookend until they pick things up in a few months.
Reigns may be the golden boy and Rollins may have the Money In The Bank Briefcase, but Ambrose has the fans. You want to know who’s next in line for the belt? Look no further than The Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose.
