Seth Rollins: Hell In A Cell Win Is A Skyrocket

On Sunday night, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose will clash inside the title structure of the WWE Hell in a Cell 2014 pay-per-view event. It will be one half of the night’s double main event (the other being John Cena vs. Randy Orton in another Cell match), and while it may not take the honor of closing the show, it is a very, very high-profile contest.

Most people probably have, and have for a long time, their names in the hat calling for an Ambrose victory. This seems to be the most obvious and logical choice: he gets the ultimate revenge on a former friend and partner who tore apart their group and tried to destroy him with the help of conveniently placed cinder blocks. Often (more often than not, to be truthful), it is the obvious and logical route that is the best one to take. It can be satisfying, wrap up a story with a tight bow, and allow the winner to move on with his career and the loser to motivate himself to pick up the pieces. Maybe that won’t be the case this Sunday.

Ambrose is unstable – that’s his biggest character trait. Rollins is smart and very opportunistic, which gives him the upper hand in a match that can lead to very dangerous behavior for somebody who is out for revenge. Will that story be more appealing to the WWE brass? It seems that they have been more on the Rollins bandwagon than on that of Ambrose, and favoritism has gotten in the way of satisfying storytelling many times.

Rollins is Mr. Money In The Bank. He is constantly holding the contract inside his briefcase over the entire roster, making sure that anybody who even has a thought that involves trying to get a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship knows exactly what may be waiting for them on the other side. With a convincing victory against Ambrose inside the brutal HIAC, Rollins’ credibility would go through the roof. Not only is he WWE’s golden ticket, but he will have proven himself to be a man that can be destructive not only with the help of a numbers game, but also with just his own two hands. That is a very powerful position to be in.

Right now, Rollins is a talented wrestler who let the wrong people get inside his head. He has shown a killer instinct, but only when he knows he is protected. Lift him off of that crutch and make him as tough as he claims to be, and the guy stops being a target who happens to hold a specter over the locker room – he becomes the specter himself. That is power.

Will Rollins beat Ambrose? Not likely. Ambrose will get his revenge on Rollins and in the process get the better of The Authority, who will have Kane try, and fail, to assist Rollins toward victory. It’s the right way to go, but if they want to put their stock in Mr. Money In The Bank, winning at Hell In A Cell would be a definitive moment in the career of Seth Rollins.
