WWE Rumors: Randy Orton To Return At TLC

Randy Orton New Champion

Randy Orton was destroyed by Seth Rollins and the group formerly known as The Authority before the Survivor Series PPV in November. He hasn’t been seen on TV since that night and his return for revenge on Seth Rollins is inevitable. The rumor mill has churned out that the return is set to happen at TLC next weekend.

One thing that WWE definitely deserves some credit for is their recent dedication to putting together some angles that last longer than a few weeks and don’t fall into the PPV match, gimmick PPV match, rubber match cycle that the writers often tend to fall into. With Rollins and Orton the tension has been building for months and the devolution of their partnership has led to a very organic evolution into a rivalry.

An Orton face turn has been rumored for many months and it seems that it is finally set to officially occur. After a very disappointing year for the Apex Predator, which was filled with start-stop booking with no clue as to what his character was supposed to be; was he a coward? Was he ruthless? It was nigh impossible to tell. Now we will know his motivation and I’m hoping he channels 2011 face Randy Orton, the loner who was essentially the antihero from a slightly altered Stone Cold Steve Austin mold.

Orton vs. Rollins is likely to happen at the Royal Rumble PPV in January. However, I would much prefer the slow burn continuing on for just a bit longer, with Rollins successfully ducking him and avoiding an one-on-one match and instead eliminating Randy from the Rumble match, leading to a match in February that ends with Orton losing due to J&J Security running interference. That would then lead to the big blowoff at WrestleMania with Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury banned from ringside in an otherwise No Holds Barred match.

Until we see it happen it is all speculation but it appears to be inevitable that Orton will be at TLC. Hopefully that happens after Rollins beats John Cena but I’m not going to hold my breath for that one.
