Undertaker and Kane Will Retire At WrestleMania 32

The writing appears to be on the wall for Kane, whose career has been winding down for the last few years. Each time we think it’s about to be over there’s something that they come up with for him that freshens him up enough to keep him around just that much longer. This time I believe it’s really going to be it. WWE has booked themselves into a situation (seemingly intentionally this time, for once!) in which the logical scenario for the summer will be Kane turning face one last time to go after Seth Rollins, The Authority and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

The live crowds have been responding raucously for Kane when he threatens Rollins, and the reaction is even louder when he attacks. It’s clear that the WWE Universe is tired of Corporate Kane simply towing the company line and with sole authority for the past few weeks (except for one Triple H appearance) Kane has been inching closer and closer to the exit sign above the door of The Authority’s locker room.

After he is forced to help Rollins retain his title again at Payback, Kane will finally go off the deep end. He will book himself in a title match against Rollins at the Money in the Bank PPV event and Triple H will give his blessing. Rollins will win and the following night on RAW Kane will be officially relieved of his duties as the Director of Operations. He’ll go out of his mind and chokeslam everybody in sight (to the crowd going insane), and then he will disappear for quite some time.

This scenario feels less like writing about what could possibly happen in the future and more like it’s something already set in stone. Where else would they go after the Rollins match? Kane vs. Triple H? Nobody wants that and it’s not a big enough match for The Game. Kane vs. Big Show? Oh please, God help us no. Seems like the end of the road if I’ve ever seen one. Surely that can’t be it, though, right? Of course not!

Kane can take a well-deserved break over the summer and fall, only to return as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match. Another surprise entrant? The Undertaker. Kane makes his appearance, mask and all (yeah, I know I wrote about him never putting it back on) and clears the ring. He’s left alone as the clock counts down… and the lights go out. The unmistakable bell chimes, the crowd loses their collective mind and The Undertaker makes his entrance. Time stops, by the way, because the 90-second timer is subject to change depending on how the match is going as it is, so why not give 3-4 minutes before the next entrant? That surprise is worth it. In any event, they face off and stare each other down. They get ready to battle, but then it’s time for another entry. That guy and maybe another two or three are tossed before the brothers finally go to war. They end up eliminating each other from the match. They stand and face each other and it’s unclear as to whether they are about to shake hands or get into fisticuffs, but then the lights go out and both men are gone, as they are wont to do, when the arena is lit back up.

They don’t make any more appearances for a few weeks until WrestleMania draws closer. Rival video packages air with the two men making challenges, highlights of their history shown and all sorts of weird Undertaker and Kane stuff happening. Yes, that is the proper term. Undertaker and Kane stuff. Look it up.

WrestleMania comes and both men square off in their final match. Does Undertaker win? Does Kane? Does it end in a draw? No matter what the result turns out to be, it ends with the lights going out (that has become a theme, no?) and when they come back on the only things left in the ring are Kane’s mask and Undertaker’s hat. The spotlight hits the stage and the two men embrace, the crowd cheers and both men walk into the sunset.

That’s some beautiful poetry.
