Over his momentous WWE career The Undertaker has missed major PPV events due to injuries and other storyline transgressions. One show he never missed was SummerSlam, appearing from the 1992 through 2005 versions. WWE's fear of using Great Khali in a live environment led to their match in 2006 being pushed back to a taped episode of SmackDown. Khali would ironically go on to wrestle with the World Title on the line at SummerSlam 2007 and 2008.

In 27 SummerSlam events the WWE Title (with the lineage from 1963) has only changed hands 7 times. The first wasn't until 1997 with Bret Hart beating The Undertaker. Mankind won it in 1999 and Brock Lesnar beat The Rock in 2002. It didn't happen for 9 years, then CM Punk beat John Cena and Alberto Del Rio used Money in the Bank to cash in, which happened with Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton in 2013. In 2014 Lesnar was the first man to win it twice.

The long-standing rumor about SummerSlam 1996 was that Vader, after a good run in WCW and Japan, was going to defeat Shawn Michaels for the then WWF Championship just 8 months after his debut. Michaels didn't like the idea of losing and allegedly pitched a fit. The match wound up ending twice (HBK being counted out and later on being disqualified) before Shawn eventually got the pin. Jim Cornette is the most prominent person to confirm the story.

Jeff Hardy has been involved in some of the most memorable matches in SummerSlam history. He also lost every time. In 1999 he and brother Matt were first eliminated in a Tag Team Turmoil Match. They were defeated again in 2000 in the original TLC match. Jeff's first singles match saw him lose the Hardcore Title to RVD in a ladder match in 2001. He lost the opening match to MVP in 2008. His final loss was to CM Punk in a TLC match in 2009.

The Million Dollar Man was always brash and loud, but he made a very quiet exit from in-ring competition in WWE. His final match was at SummerSlam 1993, where he was defeated by Razor Ramon, who had recently turned face. He would go on to wrestle a few more matches in Japan but retired from the ring altogether before 1994.

You thought the Dudley Boyz were the most decorated Tag Team Champions? You thought wrong. At SummerSlam 1991 Road Warriors Animal and Hawk defeated the Nasty Boys to win the WWF Tag Team Championship. That completed their journey of winning all of the major North American Tag Titles of the '80s and early '90s: AWA, NWA and WWF. The Dudleyz won the ECW, WWE, WCW and NWA/TNA Tag Titles, but the WCW Title win happened during the WWE Invasion story.

Ric Flair was an extremely hot commodity in the late '80s and Vince McMahon, still looking to take over the world, wanted him. Vince tried to get Flair to sign on and join the WWF to take on WWF Champion Randy Savage in the main event but The Nature Boy had a change of heart at the last minute and stayed under the NWA banner.

SummerSlam 1992 is famous for being the only major WWE PPV not filmed in North America. It took place in London's Wembley Stadium in front of a gigantic crowd on Saturday, August 29, 1992 and the good people of England got to see it broadcast live. The United States audience didn't get to see the event until that Monday, August 31.

You'd think that a guy pegged as SuperCena, an unbeatable force, would have a better track record at WWE's second biggest show of the year. That's not the case, though, as he has lost 7 of his 11 matches at the show and is currently on a 4-show losing streak. The last time he won at SummerSlam was in 2010 when Team WWE defeated The Nexus and he hasn't won a singles match since beating Randy Orton way back in 2007.
