Divas Revolution Has Finally Arrived In WWE

It has been over two months since the so-called Divas Revolution started when Stephanie McMahon introduced Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch to the Monday Night Raw audience. However, since that time the revolution has been lukewarm at best. The Divas were saddled with factions, and we saw six-woman tag matches and one-on-one matches with the rest of the women outside the ring.

As excited as I was to see these women from NXT flourish on the main roster, it turned out to be a muddled mess. We weren’t seeing the best of these women like we saw on NXT. Well, that has all changed over the past couple of weeks, and as much as it pains me to say it, it all started with Nikki Bella’s promo on breaking AJ Lee’s record. Most wanted Nikki to fall short, especially to Charlotte on that Raw. It was almost sacrilegious that a Bella could hold this Divas record. So when Nikki held on thanks to twin magic, many in the WWE Universe were outraged.

Charlotte captured the Divas title at Night of Champions, and even though Nikki still had the record, it finally felt like a breath of fresh air in the division. If the revolution truly had a chance, they had to get the belt off of Nikki. Now that they have done that, we can see some true competition with Charlotte as champion.

Then on this past Raw we saw Paige deliver her own pipebomb promo, calling every Diva out from Nikki and Brie Bella’s relationships to John Cena and Daniel Bryan, to Charlotte wrestling underneath the shadow of her Hall of Fame father Ric Flair. It was an eye-opening promo for Paige and a necessary one as well. She needed to break away from P.C.B. and establish her own identity. Plus, she works much better as a heel. The best thing about this promo is that it led to the return of Natalya. Paige is right — where is Nattie? We finally saw Nattie on Raw, and despite losing, hopefully this leads to something with her and Paige. The WWE big brass treat her like the old woman of the group, and even though she has the most experience, she is the most polished wrestler in the division.

If you really want to see a revolution, go check out NXT’s next special on October 7. That is when Bayley defends the NXT women’s title against Sasha banks in a 30-minute ironman match. Add on that it will be the main event for that night and this might be the most important women’s match in recent memory. The true revolution is happening, and hopefully one day it will be called a woman’s revolution and not a Divas one.
