WWE Doesn't Know What To Do With WrestleMania

By Nicholas A. Marsico

The latest rumor is that WWE plans to stick as many people as possible around the main event of this year’s WrestleMania. Popular belief still has the match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship pegged to be Roman Reigns challenging Triple H. WWE brass seems to realize that putting Reigns and Triple H in the ring straight up with nobody ringside or any other antics is a bad idea. The crowd will be mostly on Triple H’s side and it would look very silly to have the conquering hero defeat the tyrannical monster while everyone roots for the bad guy.

Instead of altering the plans and coming up with a better way of getting Reigns into a position in which he can become the babyface hero that WWE wants him to be, they will just try to confuse the fans into cheering for Reigns by virtue of his allies. Rumored for Reigns’ corner are both The Rock and Ronda Rousey, with Triple H being flanked by Vince and Stephanie McMahon.

Does WWE realize that The Rock didn’t get the fans to cheer his cousin at the Royal Rumble in 2015? Why do they expect that his presence will work at a show of much larger magnitude with the actual title on the line? It’s not going to happen. On top of that there’s talk of a special guest referee. Who would that even be? You would expect a heel just to stack the deck even further, because why not just lay it on as thick as possible?

There’s no way this will backfire.

Oh, wait, it absolutely will. The people aren’t begging to cheer for Reigns as the top guy yet. They’re fine with him in the conversation, but he isn’t their first choice. Dean Ambrose certainly has the crowd behind him. Ambrose vs. Triple H is still the best option for WrestleMania. The likelihood of the outcome in the triple threat match reflecting that sentiment is low. Very low.
