Sami Zayn Should Win IC Title From Kevin Owens At WrestleMania

By Nicholas A. Marsico

There are so many possibilities for this year’s WrestleMania and so much time left until it happens that the card is just wide open. In a wonderful world we’ll see Dean Ambrose pin Roman Reigns this Sunday night and a Reigns heel turn. Ambrose wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, Reigns kills The Rock that same night and then Reigns demolishes Ambrose with all sorts of plunder at Extreme Rules to take the title.

Sami Zayn is the subject of this discussion, however. He showed up at the Royal Rumble and eliminated Kevin Owens from the match but hasn’t been mentioned on WWE TV since. The Friday before WrestleMania he is scheduled to face Shinsuke Nakamura in what may be Nakamura’s only NXT match and possibly Zayn’s last. What if it was a farewell match for Zayn because he was challenging for the Intercontinental Championship on Sunday night inside AT&T Stadium?

Here’s the scenario: Dean Ambrose wins the triple threat this Sunday night. He wants to pull an Ultimate Warrior and become a double champion by defeating Triple H at WrestleMania. Kevin Owens doesn’t like that idea very much and challenges Ambrose to a match for the IC belt at the March To WrestleMania special event (or an episode of RAW or Smackdown if they aren’t available for that show). Ambrose, of course, accepts but ends up losing the title thanks in part to an angry Roman Reigns who causes a distraction.

In any event, Sami Zayn appears on the next RAW after Owens wins the title and cites their NXT feud to explain that they have unfinished business.

Without going too deep into specifics, Zayn gets a title shot at WrestleMania and upsets Owens. These men are indeed destined to fight forever, and Owens can brutalize Zayn thorough the summer but won’t be able to beat him in a match. WWE has a good enough relationship with Ring of Honor and surely Pro Wrestling Guerilla would enjoy the boost of getting some promotion. WWE can use some pictures or video footage if they really want to give that rivalry a back story and make it special.

I’m just brainstorming and spitballing, but it would be pretty great to see.
