The Miz Has Earned Another Strong Run Near The Top Of WWE

By Nicholas A. Marsico

Over the past month, WWE has been using The Miz as the buffer between Chris Jericho and AJ Styles on television. Between having them as guests on Miz TV and wrestling both men in the ring (Miz vs. Jericho will air tonight on Smackdown), The Miz is suddenly seeing an upswing of worthwhile TV time. Not only is he being used in a very visible position, the man is also taking advantage of the time he has been afforded.

For his solid matches as the third wheel of the feud and his interjection on the microphone working well to give Styles a voice while masking the Phenomenal One’s weakness in the promo department, The Miz deserves to be featured more prominently. He shouldn’t be wrestling for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but a run at the United States Championship would be a fine distraction for Kalisto if he retains the title at Fastlane.

The best use of the guy at this point is essentially exactly what they have been doing over the past few weeks. Insert him into the middle of a feud that needs a little boost by having him host Miz TV and then put him in matches with them. He can lose every single time, and if they do it right the crowd will still buy him as a legitimate threat to throw a wrench into everyone’s plans.

The Miz is at a point in his career where, without a major change to his persona, there’s no way he will be able to be a feasible World Champion again. The best place for him is to elevate talent. Somehow he has reached the status of being burned into a spot that he can’t be taken down from, making him just legitimate enough to be a worthwhile wrestler to beat on the way up. Why not give him some shine and let him have one more strong run that sees him get some good victories (beat Jericho after AJ is done with him?) before going back to feeding him to the wolves?
