WWE Setting Up WrestleMania Main Event To Be Fatal 4-Way

It has been very clear for months that the Roman Reigns project is not going the way Vince McMahon initially intended. It fell flat on its face when they tried it in 2015, but Reigns gained some momentum part of the way through the year and it looked like they might have a shot. Poor booking stopped that cold, however, and WWE finds themselves in the exact same spot going into WrestleMania this year as they did last year.

Or do they?

The audience very vocally favors Triple H over Reigns. They favor Dean Ambrose over Triple H and Brock Lesnar’s crowd support envelops that of all of the other men. Ambrose vs. Lesnar, as previously discussed, has the potential to be spectacular. It might actually be better to wait on that match in order to salvage the main event of WrestleMania.

When Triple H agreed to take on Ambrose with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line at the event that has now become known as Roadblock, the possibility sprung up that maybe WWE has something else in mind. Maybe Ambrose is going to actually get that WWE title victory that has been so wickedly eluding him for the past year.

If that does end up occurring and Ambrose actually defeats Triple H for the title on Mar. 12, there are a couple of different scenarios that could feasibly play out. WWE could leave the matches in place and just put the title on the line in the Ambrose-Lesnar Street Fight and have Reigns and Triple H go at it in an old fashioned grudge match. The more logical option (and what would make more sense given Reigns earning his title shot and Triple H wielding immeasurable power and influence) would be to merge the two matches into one and have Ambrose defend against the other three men.

It could even be the catalyst that turns Reigns heel sooner rather than later. Unlike with John Cena, a case in which it is far too late to even toy with the idea of turning him heel, Reigns still has the opportunity to drop the babyface act that simply isn’t working and instead join the dark side for a while. He could still win the title at WrestleMania which then gives WWE options through the summer, with Ambrose and Lesnar challenging Reigns for the belt as the babyfaces against the heel Reigns.

Is there a high probability that any of this is going to happen? No. Is there even a slight possibility that Ambrose can defeat Triple H for the WWE title next Saturday? There is. It could happen. It would certainly fit in with Vince McMahon’s declaration that they were going to get creative for WrestleMania this year.
