Roman Reigns Must Destroy The Rock At WrestleMania

After the “announcement” that The Rock teased on Twitter this Friday turned out to be the incredibly disappointing #FreeWrestleMania campaign, the buzz is already dying down about Rocky acknowledging his participation at this year’s WrestleMania. It’s all but confirmed that he won’t actually be wrestling at the show (unless they go with the Kurt Angle idea out of the blue or Bray Wyatt gets fed to him in a five-minute beatdown), so what will The Great One be doing at the 32nd annual Show of Shows?

One thing he definitely should not be doing is supporting Roman Reigns. It was illustrated at the end of the 2015 Royal Rumble match that The Rock’s power does not extend into Reigns by association. If Rock interferes in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match and goes after Triple H, it will initially be met with cheers until people realize that what he’s doing benefits Reigns. Then it will be a confused buzz followed by booing. If he’s there when Reigns wins the belt, the reaction will be the same as it was after the aforementioned Rumble match.

It is possible that WWE might go the route of having Rock in the corner of the challenger for the title in a misguided attempt to transfer the positive crowd support to his cousin, but that’s just not going to happen. In fact, the crowd might end up jeering Reigns while chanting for The Rock to get in the ring to go after the title.

In short, associating The Rock with Reigns at WrestleMania helps nobody. Unless the intention is to herd the boos toward Reigns to help facilitate a hot heel turn, that is. In that case it would be very helpful. In that case, actually, it would be great. How should they do it? Have Reigns destroy The Rock in the opening segment of the show.

At WrestleMania 27, WWE gave The Rock the duty of “hosting” the show. It wasn’t Rock’s fault that it was probably the worst WrestleMania since 1993, but it was a bad show and Rocky’s involvement only hindered what was already set to be a trainwreck. This time, have Reigns respond to The Rock when his name is dropped, then have him drop The Rock.

The crowd will boo the crap out of Reigns for interrupting Rocky in the first place, even though ole Dwayne initially welcomes him. They will want to kill him for spearing The Rock out of his surely Under Armour branded sneakers, and it will become more rabid when Rock attempts revenge but fails in the main event and Roman takes the title.

This is all a huge stretch and will never happen because it would require WWE to acknowledge the fact that people want to boo Reigns and cheer Triple H, not the other way around. At this stage of his career, Triple H is much better off being a good guy who rarely sees on-camera time, and when he does it should be in the capacity of not being a tyrannical company-controlling villain.

The Rock really is best served by being sacrificed to Reigns, which is precisely why it will never happen.
