Hulk Hogan Defeats Gawker And Gets Far Too Much Money

By Nicholas A. Marsico

One of the most surreal and inane trials of all time wrapped up this week, as Terry Bollea (definitely and decidedly not Hulk Hogan) won his lawsuit against Gawker. Somehow the website is to blame for putting up footage of a sex tape that was sent to them by a third party, who apparently has no culpability. Bollea (whose manhood isn’t nearly as large as Hogan’s mind you) is set to be awarded multiple millions of dollars more than he sued for, but Gawker will definitely be appealing.

In my own St. Petersburg, Florida, a jury of Hulkamaniacs cleared the good name of known liar (allegedly, brother) Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea and it just makes no sense. How was there possibly enough evidence or even solid testimony when two of the most important people involved in the making of the tape refused to take the stand after being subpoenaed to do so.

Both Todd “Bubba The Love Sponge” Clem and his now ex-wife Heather Clem have gone back and forth about whether or not Hogan knew about the fact that he was being taped, and whether or not Bubba was okay with them doing it and so on. How can a jury take so much money from one entity and decide it’s owed to another one when they didn’t come close to having every side of the story that people could tell?

In the end, Hogan is still going to get far more money than he needs. The very short form sex tape that Gawker put online did nothing to hurt him professionally (his stupid racial remarks on a jail phone line that he was too dumb to realize would be recorded did that), and it probably didn’t hurt him personally, because it’s clear the man has no shame.

He argued in court that any time he was on Bubba’s radio show he was speaking only as the Hulk Hogan character and never truthfully about himself. And the jury freakin’ believed him! It’s stunning.

If there is any justice, Gawker will get some sort of victory when they appeal and get the penalty lessened so they don’t go out of business because the money-grubbing Hogan saw an opportunity and grabbed it.
