Let’s get this straight. There will be no brand extension. Shane McMahon may defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania next Sunday night. On April 4, WWE may create the illusion of a changing of the guard with Roman Reigns having unseated Triple H and standing side by side with Shane O Mac, two men triumphant and adamant that they are going to bring change.
Yeah, Reigns isn’t turning heel. It’s just not happening. Many people want it to happen or believe it’s the right thing to do. Some think WWE is starting to foreshadow it with certain behaviors (such as Reigns entering from the stage instead of the crowd) but that’s not the case. It probably should, but the most recent best timing for a turn would have been joining up with The Authority to ensure that he would win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series.
The big rumor now is that WWE has created some new promotional materials that show certain superstars on a banner with the RAW logo and a set of different stars on one return the Smackdown logo. That’s not promotional material. Those are the banners from the “Shows” section on WWE’s website and they have been there since the new design debuted. Can we just squash that rumor?
If there are plans for a brand split (which there are not), those pictures are not an indication that WWE is going that way. The rumor mill thrives on finding bits and pieces like this and using them to make people believe that it’s true because it fits into the ideas they already have in their heads.
Maybe the rumors are websites just trying to get clicks or maybe writers aren’t doing their research. Either way, it’s wrong.
What is also wrong is actually believing that anything is really going to change in WWE when the dust has settled from the WrestleMania fallout.
